Fallen Thespians : It is with a heavy heart that I share the devastating news of the passing of two of my dear classmates, Solomon Akiyesi and Cecilia Oby Kechere, who both left us on April 27, 2026.
From our days at the University of Ibadan, Theatre Arts Department, I knew them not just as incredible talents who would go on to grace Nigeria’s screens, but as vibrant souls and friends. The Nigerian creative industry has lost two of its finest.
Rest in peace, Solomon. Rest in peace, Oby. Your curtains may have fallen, but your performances will live in our hearts forever. 🕊️🎭
Oby Kechere, popularly known as Ms Koi Koi, was a Nigerian actress and film director. She comes from Mbaise in Imo State, Nigeria.
She joined the Nigerian film industry otherwise called Nollywood in 2001, first-starring in the popular August-Meeting movie.
