| “Nigerians can find their postcodes through postcode.gov.ng and are encouraged to begin using and sharing them.”Federal Government Launches National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode SystemThe Federal Government has launched Nigeria’s National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System, a nationwide digital addressing infrastructure designed to give every addressable building in the country a unique, precise and verifiable digital location identity. The system, launched through the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), uses Geographic Information System (GIS) technology to provide an 11-character alphanumeric postcode for homes, businesses, farms, schools, offices and other addressable locations across Nigeria. The system is designed to strengthen the country’s addressing infrastructure and support applications across commerce, logistics, emergency response, financial services and public service delivery.Announcing the launch, the Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, described the National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System as an important foundation for expanding access to opportunity and strengthening Nigeria’s digital economy.“Every Nigerian deserves to be found. Every business deserves the chance to reach its customers. And every community deserves to be within reach of opportunity. Today, we are launching the National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System by NIPOST, a significant step towards a Nigeria where your location connects you to more possibilities. “Think of the small business ready to deliver beyond its neighbourhood, the family waiting for emergency help and the community that government needs to reach with essential services. An accurate postcode can make a meaningful difference in each of these lives. “As we work towards H.E. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ambition for a $1 trillion economy, we must build the foundations that allow more Nigerians to participate, trade and prosper. This is one of those foundations, and I am deeply excited about what we can build with it.” |
